Join us in making Potomac a safer place to live. Together, we can achieve a secure and peaceful community.
On June 23, 2024, at approximately 2 AM, my friends and I fell victim to an armed robbery at my residence on Persimmon Tree Road in Potomac, MD. One of my friends had just called a Lyft and was waiting near our gate when an SUV with three masked and armed gunmen arrived. They violently assaulted us at gun point, forcing us to the ground, and robbed us of our belongings in my own driveway.
Our home security system recorded the criminals lingering for over 8 minutes on the public road involved with the crime. The situation escalated to the point where they considered taking us hostage. Fortunately, the arrival of the Lyft driver provided a crucial distraction, allowing me to escape and call 911. The police report number for this incident is 240029680.
Having lived in Potomac for over 14 years (and Montgomery County for more than 20 years), I have always felt secure in my neighborhood and home. While I have heard of minor opportunistic crimes and car break-ins, this blatant armed robbery on a public road is unprecedented. Research indicates that crime rates in our area have been rising (source: Montgomery County Crime Reports).
A safe place to live and sleep is a fundamental necessity and expectation of a civil society, and a basic ask from a citizen to his representatives.. Our neighborhood, where our children grow up and where we have created countless memories, should remain a secure and cherished community. I am committed to doing my part as a citizen to improve the situation and ensure our neighborhood's safety.
I urge all residents to join me in this effort. Together, we can create a safer and more secure Potomac.
- Sincerely,
Sony George
